Research interests sit at the confluence of nano-inclusion assisted thermal conductivity enhancement, photo-thermal conversion of organic phase change materials, and advanced thermal energy storage — developing next-generation materials for solar energy and sustainability applications.
Dr. Amit Kumar Mishra is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering (MSME) at Indian Institute of Technology Bhilai (IIT Bhilai), Chhattisgarh, India. He is the founder of the Sustainable Thermal Energy & Environmental Lab (STEEL) at IIT Bhilai.
He was previously a Marie Sklodowska Curie Fellow at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Campus Straubing for Biotechnology and Sustainability, Germany. He completed his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Chemistry from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), and earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences from IGCAR, Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu.
His Ph.D. thesis titled "Study on nano-inclusion assisted enhancement in thermal conductivity and photo-thermal conversion of organic phase change materials" was supervised by Prof. John Philip FNASc, IGCAR, HBNI. He has more than 8 years of research experience in thermal energy storage, nanofluids, phase change materials, and thermal management.

Development of organic PCM systems loaded with nano-inclusions for enhanced thermal conductivity and photo-thermal conversion efficiency. Research focuses on effects of nano-inclusion loading concentrations, surface functionalization, shape, and aggregation kinetics on thermophysical properties of PCMs.

Investigation of photothermal and thermo-optical properties of nanofluids using femtosecond laser-induced time-resolved Thermal Lens measurements. Probing intermolecular interactions and thermophysical properties of complex fluids.

Development of bio-based composite materials for Solar thermoelectric generators. Synthesis and characterization of core/shell nanocapsule composite PCMs for thermal and solar energy storage applications.
Research on thermal properties of composite PCMs and Dynamic PCMs (DynPCMs) for effective Solar-Thermal energy storage. Enhancing thermal energy storage capacity and photothermal conversion performance of PCM-based materials.

Actively collaborates with experimental research groups focused on atomically precise metal nanoclusters and energy materials. Open to collaborations where spectroscopic modelling can support experimental design and accelerate materials discovery.
